COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Our Town Hall is currently designed to be functional across Canada and the USA.
Yes — it can expand to other nations. However, we only possess a familiarity with the electoral structures of Canada and the USA so would need guidance to incorporate communities beyond. And — ultimately — we hope it will.
Our Town Hall is a work-in-progress and always will be. We will constantly improve on it with features that everyone decides on.
As of now, we are limited in both time and financial resources so are building the democratic basics first:
- Allowing citizens to register
- Adding all of the almost 100,000 local electoral communities (“town halls”) which we are sequencing in priority by those people who register.
Want your community included faster? Register yourself and it will happen faster! - Installing the critical core features that allow people to add in ideas, comment and discuss those ideas, debate those ideas, improve on those ideas, and ultimately vote on those ideas.
This is the critical component that brings democracy to life.
You decide where it goes next. You decide what features and functions you want added.
We will all make those decisions together.
We have taken the first steps, the next steps are on all of us.
We do this together.
This is built for you, your community, and our society.
We build all of it together.
Keep in mind that this is not merely an online platform or app.
The app is merely an effort to automate democracy itself.
We can build the online tool, but it is up to you what you do with it.
It is up to you to use it to build your community — and that you have to do together.
That is how the power of democracy works.
But it is you that is its fuel.
It is you working with your neighbors – engaging them – this is where its power comes from.
You can start now.
You can register yourself and start talking with your neighbors and engage them to join you.
Democracy is a team game.
THE EXAMPLE
We are deploying this in our own community — The Front of Yonge Township in Eastern Ontario Canada.
This is not just the test site for our platform, it is the test site for engaging communities to embrace the power of democracy itself in building our future together.
Our mission is to have our Town Hall work for us and actually deliver on the decisions we make ourselves together.
Through democracy among all our neighbors.
We are running a full slate of candidates in our next election. Covering all five positions in our Town Council.
The goal is to have the Our Town Hall app implemented as the decision mechanism for everything that our Town Hall does.
Give all the power to the people.
And have the faith that they will make every right decision on every other issue from there.
Our bet is that they will get it right every single time.
We will keep you posted both through the app as well as on the page of this website that is dedicated to that purpose.
We will all learn together as we take the steps forward to taking our own power.
We will share our successes. And we will learn from our mistakes.
Together.
POLITICIANS OUT … PEOPLE IN
Our local politicians should exist to implement the ideas we want and decide on.
Not the ideas they deem to be ‘best for us’.
Politicians do not have ideas — the people do.
We are putting our own neighbors together to rule themselves.
Democracy is the fuel of that freedom.
WHAT CAN YOU DO?
First, register your voice in our app. It’s free and simple.
Then, start talking with your neighbors.
We are convinced that the absolute majority of them are totally fed up with our current system of governance.
The majority are fed up with the corruption.
The majority are fed up with the moneyed influence of lobby groups and special interests.
The majority have ideas they actually want to share.
The majority wants to be heard.
And talk them into joining you to chart the future of your community on our app.
Encourage them to participate and bring even more of your neighbors on-board.
Let them have their say.
Give them the power of their own self-determination.
How can they not love you for that?
And — by the way — as you do take these simple few steps, you will find a new vibrant energy of community start to rise in your community.
You will all get to know each other.
You will be starting to build your community together.
That is your common ground — all of you want to be free.
We built it through shared practice: the willingness to look closer, to replace judgment with curiosity,
to stand beside each other as explorers rather than face each other as opponents.”
— Mo Rivers
Take the power you have of your own community.
Unite with your neighbors and embrace the true power of democracy
to chart the path forward to the community you all want.
And we can all do this together — because that is the true power of democracy.
The 1% does not have that power.
We — the people — do.
Power to the People.
